Lt. Surge is a Gym Leader in Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon Crystal. He specializes in Electric-Type Pokémon.

Pokémon FireRed Edit

Part 11 Edit

In their first battle, Surge began with his Voltorb while Emile sent out his Meowth, which was still weakened from the battle against one of the Gym's other trainers. Meowth landed one Pay Day before Emile switched out for his Ivysaur, who endured Voltorb's attacks with relative ease before knocking it out. Surge sent out his Pikachu next, and despite Emile's expectations, Ivysaur outsped the Electric-type and knocked it out before it could attack. Finally, Surge sent out his Raichu. Its Shock Wave attacks did significant damage to Ivysaur despite the type disadvantage, but the over-leveled starter knocked it out with Razor Leaf attacks and sap damage from Leech Seed. Lt. Surge granted Emile the Thunderbadge—allowing him to Fly to previously visited Pokémon Centers—as well as TM34, Shock Wave.

Pokémon Crystal Edit

Kanto - Part 9 Edit

Despite the larger and stronger team, Surge proved to be even less of a challenge on the rematch; Emile's Donphan handled the entire battle, and his natural immunity neutralized most of Surge's team's attacks. Donphan used Rollout throughout the entire battle, defeating Surge's Raichu with relative ease and his Electabuzz effortlessly. Surge's remaining Pokémon each used Double Team to try to evade Rollout, and while Surge's first Electrode managed to evade and ultimately weaken Donphan with Explosion, his second Electrode fell to a critical hit and his Magneton was unable to attack before Donphan finished it off, once more earning Emile the Thunderbadge.
